The company's roots can be traced back to the early 1980s with Ragwing and Fred Hanson at Audley End Airfield near Saffron Walden in Essex.  In 1986, Vintage Fabrics was formed and the company moved to workshops in Rayne in Essex.  In 1989 Vintage Fabrics amalgamated with Historic Flying Limited and in 1990, Historic Flying moved from Rayne to a new purpose built facility at Audley End.

In 1997 Clive and Linda Denney left Historic Flying and reformed Vintage Fabrics at Earls Colne Airfield.

In 2000 Vintage Fabrics left Earls Colne and moved to larger premises near Braintree.

Vintage Fabrics became Vintage Fabrics Ltd on the 1st of August 2003

In November 2007, the company moved to back to where it all started - Audley End

Vintage Fabrics continues to recover aircraft in the traditional manner of Irish Linen and Nitrate Cellulose tautening dopes, but it also maintains a steady flow of modern polyester cotton fabric recovers on the more modern sport and aerobatic aircraft.
